Goals...

It's that time of year, when we reflect on times past and look to the future.  What are your goals for next year?  In my blog post where I discussed good goal setting practices, I mentioned that it is best to be specific.  This writing prompt will deal with setting your goals.  Imagine that you are looking back at your year on December 31, 2009.  What did you accomplish?  As always, the rules for the writing prompt are:
  • Time yourself fifteen minutes
  • Don't stop writing!
  • Don't pick your pencil off the paper!
  • Don't scratch anything out!
Once you have gotten it out on paper, look over what you have written.  Does anything surprise you?  Rank the goals:  give the goal a "1" for "I would be so disappointed if this didn't happen I don't know what I would do" and a "10" for "It would be nice, but I won't be too upset if it doesn't happen." Once you have the goals ranked, pick the top five goals to focus on for the next year.  Take time to create a plan on how you will make these goals come to fruition.  By determining the steps required to reach a goal, you make it more likely that you will reach that goal.  Good luck!
